How ZyXEL Can Help You?
ZyXEL has developed complete broadband technologies
for COE and CPE product lines, and it’s a trouble-free and
cost-effective approach to deploy the next-generation fiber
solutions of FTTN, FTTC, FTTB, FTTP and FTTH by means of
AON or PON fiber access technologies. Please refer to the
figure of ZyXEL End-to-end FTTx Solution including MSAN,
DSLAM, Carrier Ethernet and PON in access CO site, as well
as the versatile customer edge premises on the subscriber
site. (Figure C)
Background of AON and PON:
AON (Active Optical Network, Active Fiber or Active
Ethernet)
Active fiber is a dedicated medium in which each end user
is allowed independent access. Each end user has a home
ZyXEL AON/PON solutions for FTTN, FTTC, FTTB, FTTP, and FTTH
ZyXELs FTTx solutions have already successfully provided
high-capacity systems for Telco/ISPs to deliver high-quality
experience of the best CAPEX and OPEX to residential,
vertical and SMB users worldwide. It is all about ROI (Return
of Investment) of the Telco businesses involved: with ZyXELs
FTTx solutions, Telco/ISPs can implement the equipments
according to the infrastructure and regional status to adopt
advanced technologies appropriately. The ZyXEL FTTx
solutions support large bandwidth requirement in Telco
infrastructures and a full variety of DSL telecommunication
services provided over copper wires, such as VoIP (Voice
over Internet Protocol), fiber optics and Ethernet to fulfill
Telco requirements for advanced and reliable architectures.
gateway with active fiber directly connected to the carrier
Ethernet switch in the central office or street cabinet by a
direct fiber. Between the central office and the end user,
there can also be an aggregation Ethernet router if needed.
PON (Passive Optical Network)
PON is a shared medium in which a fiber is “passively split
into many end user connections. The term passive” refers
only to the optical splitter, which does not require external
electrical power to function. Each end user has one GEPON
ONU (Optical Network Unit) or GPON ONT (Optical Network
Terminal) while the fiber terminates at a central office
in an OLT (Optical Line Terminal) that requires electrical
power. Between the OLT and the ONU/ONT may be one or
two stages of passive splitters that split the connection to
multiple end points.
